Utah has a great advantage in our outstanding public education system. The teachers throughout the state do a tremendous job, sometimes under the duress of overcrowding of classrooms. We need to assure that all students have access to a quality education in our state. In the event that certain schools fail to meet the high standard necessary for their students, I would support a system for those students to transfer to Charter or Private schools chosen by the parents. I also believe that the curriculum of our schools should emphasize critical thinking and basic subjects which will prepare them to become productive citizens of the state. I do not believe that our schools should delve into social engineering in an attempt to fundamentally change the fabric of our society.
